Red Raven Magic Mirror is an interesting little blast from the past device. It’s a children’s vinyl record with fun little cartoons drawing on it. You place it on the turn-table and place the little ‘magic mirror’ carousel-like device on the spindle. As the record spins you’ll see the cartoon drawings reflected no the mirrors. It creates the illusions of a movie animated cartoon character.
Looks like a pretty neat little lo-fi inventions which are probably now lost in the sea of hi-tech gadgetry. Check out this little video and Blazenhoff’s flickr photo stream.
This little toy had inspired a music video. Moray McLaren’s “We Got Time” was created using animations from the technique of Red Raven Magic Mirror praxinoscope device.
The animation has a sort of hypnotic feel to it and it’s actually fits perfectly with Moray McLaren‘s song. Check out the music video:
